Venture profile – Kalbarri Development Association

1.  What is your venture?

Kalbarri Development Association is a volunteer run group of can-do people working to progress the development of Kalbarri – from both an economic and social viewpoint. Our signature event is the Kalbarri Zest Fest – a five-year community cultural celebration commemorating the 300th anniversary of the sinking of the Dutch East India merchant ship the Zuytdorp. Held once a year in September, the festival brings top quality art, dining, exhibitions, music and performance to Kalbarri in a whirlwind of culture and celebration.

2. What’s inspired your work?

The Kalbarri Zest Festival was inspired by the need to celebrate our mind-blowingly interesting history. We have such an incredible part that is deserving of attention. We’re also inspired by the desire to ensure country residents have access to world class art and cultural entertainment and workshops.

3. What’s your focus for the next 3 months?

Our festival finale! We are preparing for a spellbinding fusion of art, culture, history, and performance for the finale Kalbarri Zest Festival from September 16-18. The festival brings world class cultural performances alongside local talent in a fantasia of food, art, comedy, music and games under the theme Eendracht, Unity: accepting a world of difference. Highlights will include an enchanting Opening Night Pleasure Garden, outdoor performance under night skies at Red Bluff, comedy performances, historical maze and more.
